The Great Altcoin Rotation: Why Wall Street Is Swapping Bitcoin ETFs for XRP and Solana

Visits: 9

Something unusual is happening in crypto’s ETF market. For months, Bitcoin’s spot ETFs were the industry’s undisputed flagship — the product that dragged crypto into mainstream finance. But over the past month, investors have pulled roughly $3.7 billion out of US spot Bitcoin ETFs and $1.6 billion out of Ethereum ETFs — while the newly launched XRP and Solana ETFs quietly attracted more than $955 million in inflows, per SoSoValue data reported by DL News. Analysts are calling it a rotation, and a few are making bold predictions about where it leads next.

The numbers behind the rotation

The divergence is striking. Bitcoin ETFs, once Wall Street’s favourite on-ramp to crypto, have been bleeding for weeks. Ethereum’s funds have fared no better — October alone saw $1.08 billion walk out of US spot Ether ETFs, the heaviest monthly withdrawal of 2026.

But two altcoin products are swimming against the tide. The freshly listed spot ETFs for XRP and Solana have gathered over $955 million in their first month, a signal that institutional demand for regulated crypto exposure hasn’t died — it has just moved house.

Ray Youssef, CEO of crypto trading platform NoOnes, told DL News he believes these new ETFs will drive XRP up 33% to around $2.50 and Solana up 10% to roughly $160. “Regulated products create a steady inflow channel that can serve as a liquidity buffer for the current market environment,” he said. He is not alone — other analysts quoted by DL News have floated the same targets: $2.50 for XRP, $160 for SOL.

It is worth being precise about what those numbers mean. XRP trades around $1.29–1.37 and Solana near $102–107 as of this week, so both forecasts assume meaningful rallies — and both are opinions, not guarantees. ETF inflows don’t automatically translate into price targets; they simply give institutional buyers a regulated pipe that never existed before.

Why altcoins, and why now?

The rotation has a macro engine behind it. Tech stocks led a global rally this week as traders priced in a growing chance of a Federal Reserve rate cut in December. New York Fed President John Williams said last week that cuts could come in the “near term,” and Fed Governor Chris Waller added fuel to that fire on Monday. When rate-cut odds jump, risk appetite returns — and crypto’s beaten-down altcoin complex is the first place speculative capital goes hunting.

Then there is the mechanics of the products themselves. A spot ETF does something no brokerage app ever could: it lets pension funds, registered advisers and corporate treasuries buy XRP and Solana exposure without touching a crypto exchange, managing keys, or explaining self-custody to a compliance department. For Bitcoin, that novelty wore off long ago. For altcoins, it is brand new — which is exactly why the inflow numbers skew so heavily toward the new products.

Solana’s tech tailwind — and XRP’s homework

Each coin brings its own subplot. Solana just completed its Alpenglow upgrade on mainnet, a consensus overhaul that speeds up transaction finalisation — a real protocol improvement that long-term holders point to, even if it didn’t stop SOL dipping alongside the market this week.

XRP’s ledger has its own roadmap: the cleanup amendment is back in its waiting period and points to a conditional November 4 activation, while separate lending proposals are still below the voting threshold. As reporting this week noted, a delayed patch and an unapproved feature are not the same thing as a launched product — XRP’s next upgrades remain conditional, not confirmed.

What could go wrong

Every rotation narrative deserves a sceptic’s pass:

  • ETF flows are fickle. Ethereum’s $1.08 billion October exodus is proof that institutional money rotates out just as fast as it rotates in. Solana’s own ETFs only just ended a twelve-session withdrawal run.
  • Macro is the real driver. If the December rate cut doesn’t materialise — a Reuters survey of 100 economists had 94 expecting October rates to be held, with most seeing a hike in December instead — the risk rally could reverse in a hurry.
  • Bitcoin dominance is rising. Bitcoin’s share of the total crypto market is at its highest since May. When Bitcoin reclaims flows, altcoins historically bear the brunt.

The takeaway

The $955 million flowing into XRP and Solana ETFs while Bitcoin and Ethereum funds bleed is one of the clearest signals of 2026: institutions aren’t abandoning crypto, they’re rebalancing within it. Whether Youssef’s $2.50 and $160 targets land is anyone’s guess — but the plumbing that makes such targets conceivable, regulated spot ETFs for altcoins, is now in place. Watch the weekly flow prints: they have become the scoreboard for the whole altcoin trade.
